Cueva del Viento

Cueva del Viento-Sobrado is a volcanic cavity located in the town of Icod de los Vinos. It is also considered one of the longest complex lava tubes in the world. Its many underground passages span more than 17 kilometers.

Cueva del Viento was created by streams of lava from the Pico Viejo, a volcanic cone, located next to Mount Teide. A lava tube is a natural conduit formed by flowing lava. When lava is flowing and gets in contact with air, the surface of the lava stream solidifies, creating a layer of insulation while the lava inside this layer continues to flow, until the tube is completely empty and the volcanic cave remains.

The tour starts at the visitor center where a vehicle will transfer the group to a place close to the entrance. From here on the visit continues walking through a mid-altitude region, a pine forest and an old path.

The visitor center and the inside of the tunnel are provided with bilingual panels which, along with your expert guide´s explanations, offer detailed information about the cave, the lava tubes and the wildlife that inhabits inside.

This visit of intermediate difficulty lasts two hours from the starting point. Visitors stay inside the cave for approximately 45 minutes, exploring around 250 meters of the cave.
